Mission Statement

Urban Unconscious (UU) is a not-for-profit organization founded to bring educational awareness and advocacy to mental health and social justice issues. Urban Unconscious seeks to alleviate barriers to treatment by providing psychoeducation and resources to historically oppressed communities. We are committed to scholarship, civic engagement, public service, and servant-leadership!

Urban Unconscious is a 501(C)3 Organization which is tax exempt. Donations to this organizations are eligible to tax exemption.

 

Scholarship Donations.

Each dollar you donate financially supports Black students in need of financial support pursuing an undergraduate degree. Each recipient is on a mission to do social justice work within their perspective profession.

 

Therapy Donation.

Donations towards our therapy fund allow historically oppressed individuals access to the tools and resources needed to foster their mental and emotional development.

Book Scholarship Award

Pastor Rosie Lee Steverson was born June 9, 1931, to Amelia Green and Louis Fort. In 1946, she married Lee Andrew Steverson (L.S.). The two raised eight children, including Clarastine Space, Charles Steverson, Lee Andrew Steverson Jr, Gloria Sutton, Bettyann Steverson, James Steverson, Sherry Steverson, and Tyrone Steverson. After moving to Chicago, she joined First Saint Peter and was appointed Assistant Pastor, where she served 42 Years. At her death in 2010, she had 42 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Her legacy and family lineage continue to expand.

This scholarship aims to honor the life and legacy of Rosie Lee Steverson. She was most known for her love for family and community.

Recipients of this award honor the legacy of Pastor Steverson by engaging in social justice work in their communities that foster healing, liberation, and care for those who are currently and historically oppressed.

Book Scholarship Requirements

  • Academics

    -Proof of enrolled as an undergraduate student at a college or university in the United States

    -Unofficial transcript with 2.0 minimum GPA

  • Involvement

    -Must be active in at least 2 student organizations related to social justice

    -Demonstrate a history of community activism work

  • Interest

    -Communicate a genuine interest in social justice activism

    -Clearly articulates professional goals
