Anxiety Therapy in Forney, TX and Bloomington, IL
Does your mind start running before your feet hit the floor?
Do you lie awake going over a conversation from three days ago, wondering how you came across?
Have you gotten so good at handling things that nobody, including you, notices what it's costing?
Maybe you're the one everyone calls. The one who remembers the appointments, smooths things over, holds the plan together. You've built a reputation for being capable, and now it feels like there's no room to be anything else.
Perhaps you've started noticing that rest doesn't work anymore. You sit down and your chest stays tight. You take the day off and spend it thinking about what you should be doing. Even the good things in your life come with a low hum underneath them, a sense that something is about to require you.
You might not call it anxiety. A lot of the women I work with don't. They say they're tired. Stretched thin. Off. They say they don't know what's wrong, only that something is.
Anxiety Doesn't Always Look Like Panic.
When you've spent years being the person who copes, anxiety learns to hide inside your competence.
It shows up as:
Trouble falling asleep, or waking at 3am with your mind already going
Tension you carry in your jaw, shoulders, or stomach
Irritability that arrives faster than it used to, at people who don't deserve it
Overthinking every message before you send it Saying yes when your whole body is saying no
Needing to stay busy because stillness feels unbearable
Feeling nothing at all, in a life you worked hard to build
Underneath it is usually the same engine: the belief that if you stop scanning, stop managing, stop holding, something will fall. So the alarm stays on. Not loud enough to stop you. Just loud enough that you never fully rest.

You Are Not The Only One Carrying This
Anxiety is the most common mental health concern people face, and it makes sense that so many of us are living with it.
But there's a version of this that doesn't get named often enough. When you are a Black woman, you are frequently the one expected to absorb. To be steady when things are not steady. To manage other people's comfort in rooms that were not built with you in mind. To be strong, and to make it look easy.
That expectation does something to a nervous system. Code-switching, caregiving, chronic stress, and the pressure to never be the one who needs something keep your body braced for years at a time. What you're feeling is not fragility. It is what happens when a person carries a real weight without ever being allowed to set it down.
You are not behind. You are not ungrateful. You have not failed at handling your life. You have handled far too much of it alone.
Why We Wait So Long To Ask For Help
Most of the women I see waited. They told themselves it wasn't bad enough. That other people had it worse. That they should be able to figure this out, because they've figured out everything else.
Sometimes the hesitation runs deeper than that. Maybe therapy wasn't something your family talked about. Maybe you've sat across from a provider who didn't get it, and you spent the session explaining yourself instead of being helped.
I want to say clearly: you do not have to be in crisis to deserve support. Anxiety therapy is not a last resort for people who have run out of options. It is a place to put down what you've been carrying and look at it with someone who understands the context it came from.
Anxiety Therapy Can Help You Come Home To Yourself
The work we do is not about giving you a better system for managing an unsustainable load. You already have systems. That's part of the problem.
Together, we look at where the alarm came from and what it would take to turn it down. Where you learned that rest had to be earned. Why no feels dangerous. What you're afraid would happen if you stopped holding everything at once.
I'm here to offer real support, not a worksheet and a plan to be more efficient at your own exhaustion.
What You Can Expect In Our Sessions
My first goal is for you to feel safe enough to be honest. Not polished. Honest.
In our early sessions, I'll want to understand what's happening in your life right now, what's been happening for a long time, and what you actually want to feel different. We'll talk about your history, your relationships, and the moments the anxiety gets loudest.
From there we work on both levels at once:
We build practical tools. Recognizing what anxiety feels like in your body before it takes over. Interrupting a spiral. Setting a boundary and staying inside it when someone pushes back.
And we go underneath the tools, because a pattern with roots doesn't respond to technique alone.
Over time, clients tell me the same kinds of things. They're sleeping. They're reacting less. They can sit still without needing to earn it. They have language for what they feel while it's happening instead of three days later. They're making choices based on what they want, not what they can tolerate.
How I Work
I draw on psychodynamic therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, narrative work, and Black feminist therapy. In practice, that means we trace where your patterns started, build concrete skills for right now, and hold all of it inside a full understanding of your life, your culture, and your context.
I bring my whole self into the room, and I want the same from you. You don't have to translate. You don't have to soften it. You don't have to arrive with the right words.
Sessions are virtual, so you can meet from wherever you already are, without adding one more drive to a schedule that's full.
You May Still Have Questions.
-
It depends on what you're working through. Some people come for a focused season. Others stay longer and go deeper. We decide together, and you stay in charge of that.
-
It can feel heavier before it feels lighter, and we go at a pace you set. Avoiding it is what keeps it running in the background.
-
You have been handling it. That's exactly why you're this tired.
-
Yes. The research supports it, and many clients find it easier to be honest from their own space.
-
That's what the consultation is for. Fit matters more than credentials, and I would rather help you find the right person than have you stay somewhere that isn't working.
You Don't Have To Keep Doing This Alone
If anxiety has been running quietly underneath your life, anxiety therapy can help you set it down. I offer a free 15 minute consultation, where we'll talk about what's bringing you here and whether working together makes sense. No pressure and no commitment.
You've carried this a long time. Let's look at it together.
