Online Fertility and Pregnancy Therapy for Black Women
Are you smiling through another baby shower while your own body feels like it's keeping a secret from you?
Do you hold your breath every time you take a test, go to an appointment, or wait for a phone call?
Are you pregnant and expected to glow, when what you mostly feel is worry?
The road to motherhood is not always the one you pictured. It can include waiting, treatment, loss, hope, and fear, sometimes all in the same week. Many women walk it quietly, without telling anyone how heavy it is.
You don't have to carry this part by yourself. I offer online therapy for Black women navigating fertility and pregnancy in Texas and Illinois.

When the Road to Motherhood Is Heavy
What This Can Look Like
Grief and hope taking turns, month after month
Feeling like your body has let you down
Pulling away from friends who are pregnant or parenting
Strain in your relationship around treatment, money, or timing
Anxiety during pregnancy that you're afraid to say out loud
Fear of getting attached after a loss
Feeling alone in decisions that are deeply personal
None of this means you're ungrateful, weak, or doing it wrong. These are human responses to something that matters deeply to you.
Black Women Deserve to Be Heard on This Journey
Black women often move through fertility care and pregnancy while also managing whether they'll be listened to. You may have felt rushed in an appointment, had your concerns brushed aside, or felt you had to stay composed so you'd be taken seriously.
On top of that, there's often the expectation that we handle it quietly, that we stay strong, and that we don't talk about what hurts. That pressure keeps many women silent at the exact moment they most need to be heard.
How Therapy Can Help
This is a space where you can say the parts you haven't said. The jealousy. The fear. The grief that doesn't have a funeral. In our work together, we can:
Make room for grief and hope at the same time
Work through the anxiety that comes with waiting, testing, and appointments
Prepare for hard conversations with your partner, family, or care team
Set boundaries with people who ask questions you don't want to answer
Reconnect with parts of yourself that aren't defined by this journey
I won't tell you how you should feel. We'll make space for what you actually feel.

From Pregnancy Into Postpartum
Pregnancy and postpartum are connected, and support doesn't have to stop when the baby arrives. If you're further along on the journey, read about postpartum and maternal mental health therapy. If you're carrying a loss, grief therapy may be a fit too.
How I Work
My approach is informed by psychodynamic therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), narrative therapy, and Black feminist psychology. All sessions are online by secure video, which helps when appointments, symptoms, or a new baby already fill your schedule. You need to be physically located in Texas or Illinois at the time of each session. I'm a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas. Meet Tyra
FAQs About Fertility and Pregnancy Therapy
Do I need a diagnosis of infertility to work with you?
No. You're welcome here wherever you are on the journey, whether you're trying, in treatment, pregnant, or recovering from a loss.
Can therapy help me through IVF or other fertility treatment?
Therapy can give you a steady place to process the waiting, the decisions, and the ups and downs of treatment. I don't provide medical advice, so please bring questions about your body, your treatment, or medications to your doctor or fertility team. Our work sits alongside their care.
I'm pregnant after a loss. Is it normal to feel this anxious?
Many women feel anxious during a pregnancy after a loss, and you don't have to manage that fear alone. We can make room for both the hope and the worry. If you notice physical symptoms or have questions about your pregnancy, call your doctor or midwife right away.
Can my baby join our sessions?
Yes. Sessions are virtual, so your baby is welcome to join, and we can also plan sessions that are just for you.
Do you take insurance?
I accept several plans directly and more through Headway. If you use insurance, what you pay depends on your plan. See Insurance and Rates.
You Deserve Care on This Journey Too
You don't have to have it all sorted out to reach out. In a free 15-minute consultation, we'll talk about where you are and whether working together makes sense. If you’re located in Texas or Illinois, you can pick a time that works for you through my secure client portal.
